UK Health Security Agency data has shown that one dose of the vaccine offers 78% protection against the virus from 14 days after receiving it, and the second dose aims to provides longer term protection.

The success of this mpox vaccination programme has helped to control the outbreak of mpox and has led to a sustained reduction in mpox cases. This means the vaccination programme is no longer needed and can now be wound down.
